Dedicated to:
the tree outside my shower window

I’LL HOLD MY HEAD BACK AND THINK OF YOU
By Hannah Shea
ABOUT THE PIECE
Dedicated to the tree outside my shower window, who has patiently waited for me to document her for the last 5 years. I finally took her portrait on the last photo of a black and white roll this winter. This is an ode to our sweet friendship, through the seasons.

Everyday I stare up at you, with my feet planted in the tub.
Through every season,
frostbitten arms,
to full bushy limbs,
you stare back.
As I bathe.
As I catch my thoughts.
As I breathe.
As I make love.
As I sob.
You hold your gaze with me,
and listen to my dreams,
as dead ones flow down past my feet.
The water goes down, your hands stretch up.
I will love you in a past life,
as I continue on.
But your eyes will remind me of my most vulnerable form,
and kiss me a solemn goodbye.
I’ll hold my head back,
and think of you,
until I am washed clean.

ARTIST:
HANNAH SHEA
Hannah Shea is a non-fiction photographer, writer, and teacher residing in the Pacific Northwest. She is the founder of ALNTH, a thoughtfully curated art collective that sources original works by artists, and supports women’s healing and empowerment. She is also the founder of The Archive, an online education space for film photographers. Shea’s writing explores the honesty of childhood healing, and poetic tellings of the romantic and tumultuous love affair of life. For the last decade she has photographed original stories and scenes from a familiar place, producing fine art prints for her clients and audience. Shea finds herself most inspired by the relationship of photographs and writings holding hands, and the stories that bleed to the surface in spite of it all.
